Piquetes en Disneylandia, Tio Rico no larga una moneda
Mickey Mouse, Peter Pan, Blancanieves, Aladdín, La Cenicienta, Campanita y otros personajes del imaginario infantil fueron detenidos por la policía durante una protesta laboral que imprimió un toque de realidad en el Lugar Más Feliz de la Tierra: Disneylandia. La protesta involucra a unos 2,300 empleados -entre mucamas, botones, cocineros y lavatrastes- en los tres hoteles propiedad de Disney: Paradise Pier, Grand Californian y Disneyland Hotel. El contrato laboral de los trabajadores expiró en febrero y su sindicato dice que las propuestas recientes de Disney vuelven incosteable el programa de salud para cientos de empleados, además de que crean un sistema injusto de pago con dos criterios. El gremio dice también que Disney pretende formar una nueva categoría de empleados de medio tiempo con un paquete muy reducido de prestaciones. La portavoz de Disney, Lisa Haines, indicó que la empresa y el sindicato están apenas en negociaciones y no tienen todavía acuerdos. Aseguró que los trabajadores han realizado 14 protestas pero sólo han acudido a 11 sesiones de negociación en seis meses.
